I’ll be giving an opening keynote address at the Office 2.0 conference in San Francisco on October 11. This looks to be a great event; I’m looking forward to listening to the panel discussions and meeting people who to date I know only from their blogs. I think it’s filling up quickly, so register if you’re interested and please do introduce yourself; it would be great to meet more people who think that the emergent enterprise could be important.

:wow: The debate going on in MS state about Microsoft Office verus Open Office standards underscores the search for viable alternatives in the office applications sector. Meanwhile, people require compatiblity with Microsoft Office file formats. Setting standards is only part of the picture. Society needs to look at substance more than mere form in the matter. In the service economy there may not be as much substance as in the industrial sector. Beyond that, in industry there is design and engineering. Design is ubiquitous in our society and may include stylizing and artistic insight. Design requires vision and initiative. There is the need to be different, which goes back to choice in office applications.I am pro-choice.
